Motion- Solar Panels on Dormant Landfill Sites

When you have closed landfill sites that are too unstable to build on, the options for utilizing this land let alone generating revenue from it are limited. These sites could prove to be an asset for energy production in the city.  I believe it is worth investigating whether or not these lands are suitable for this kind of project. Not only could we see increased sustainability in our city’s energy sources, we could utilize this land in a practical and responsible manner.

Solar farms need a significant amount of land to operate and these sites may be ideal. This is a potential opportunity for the City of Hamilton to generate further revenue through sustainable energy production. With that in mind I will be introducing the following motion at Public Works Committee on Monday.
