Compassionate Grant Program for Frozen Water Pipes

Back in March I moved a motion asking staff to report back to the Public Works Committee as to the feasibility of initiating a one time compassionate grant program for those affected by frozen water pipes when the freeze started in the municipal right of way.

Since then people have been calling my office asking when the grant program will be approved and how they can apply.

At today’s Public Works meeting City staff presented their report and recommendations on compassionate grants.

Staff recommended a 50/50 cost sharing program however the majority of committee members backed a 100% program capped at $1000 per household.

This program will be presented to Council and if passed residents will have 120 days to file a claim with the City’s risk management department.

I will post the report and the requirements for the grant as soon as the amended reports are posted on the City’s website.
